Graduation ceremony ends in a bloody brawl (graphic video)

A Long Island graduation ceremony turned into a vicious brawl on Sunday, and it was all captured on video. For almost three minutes, Lorenzo Saez, 20, of Bellport recorded the fracas outside William Floyd High School on his cell phone.

The video shows people hitting each other while others can be heard yelling and screaming. Among the people involved was a woman, recorded as she is laying on the ground. As she’s kicked and punched by other women, bystanders and security guards step in and she’s helped up, blood dripping from the side of her head.

The fight made its way into the school parking lot, where graduates in caps and gowns can be seen amid the chaos, and plenty of cursing and threats can be heard from the brawlers.

Saez posted the video to Facebook and said the fight was between “two families.” According to Saez, “Security was trying to break it apart, but they weren’t doing a good job.”

Suffolk County police were called to scene, but the fight ended before they arrived, according to a police spokeswoman. Although no arrests were made, police are investigating the incident.

The William Floyd School District released a statement about the incident:

We are disappointed by the actions of those who instigated the incident on what was a joyous occasion for our students and their families. District officials have met with law enforcement and we are pressing charges.

As a school and community, we won’t let the small number of spectators involved in inappropriate behavior overshadow the accomplishments of so many wonderful students and their families celebrating graduation day.

Many of our students are headed to the finest colleges and universities in the world, will serve honorably in the armed forces or begin the initial steps of their careers after learning valuable skills in one of our career and technical education academies. Graduation day is about them.
